Storage Unit Details

1. What sizes do you offer? Top
The smallest unit we have is a 5x5, while the largest unit is a 12x40 with a large variety of sizes in between to accommodate all your self storage needs. See our individual location pages for pricing and a complete list of unit sizes and descriptions of the storage units that we offer.
2. Do you offer temperature controlled units? Top
Yes.  We offer temperature controlled units at 9 of our 11 locations.  Unit sizes vary by store.  In Lexington, we offer temperature controlled unit sizes from a 5x5 up to a 10x40.  In Shelbyville we offer them from 5x10 up to a 10x30.  In Louisville / Fern Creek they start at a 5x10 and go up to a 10x25.
3. What kind of access do I have to my unit? Top
A majority of our traditional units are accessed through a roll-up door along our wide, well-lit driveways. Some of our traditional storage units are located in wide interior hallways. These are mostly smaller units such as a 5x5, 5x10, 5x15 & 10x10s. Most of our temperature controlled storage units are located in interior hallways with the exception of a few units which provide walk door access directly to the driveway areas. The interior hallways are accessed through large walk doors. Our smaller temperature controlled units have swing doors and our 10x10CC units and larger have a regular roll-up door as their access. Your lock goes on the storage unit and you hold the key(s) to that lock. If you wish, we can hold a key to your unit in your file. Your passcode will allow you access to the storage facility through our gate system.
4. Do you offer temperature control storage units at all of your locations? Top
We have temperature controlled units at all of our locations except for our Christian Road and Mall Road locations in Lexington.

When I Rent

1. How long does it take to rent a unit? Top
When you come in to rent a storage unit we like to first show you the unit to make sure the size and location of the unit fits your needs. After that, you will fill out your paperwork and pay for your first month's rent. Typically, the process should take between 10 to 20 minutes.
2. Is there a deposit or setup charge to rent a storage unit? Top
We do not charge any deposit or setup fee to rent a storage unit. All you have to pay for is your first month's rent.
3. What do I need to bring to rent a unit? Top
You will need to bring a valid, government issued photo identification card and payment for your first month's rent. We accept cash, check, Visa, MasterCard, American Express & Discover. Also, you will need a lock for your storage unit which you can bring with you or you can purchase a disc lock from us.
4. How do I know what size I need? Top
Our managers are skilled at helping you determine what size and type storage space best fits your needs. They will be happy to help you over the phone or in person. It is often helpful to come to our storage facility and look at a variety of storage units yourself to help make your decision.

Access

1. How do I access my unit? Top
When you complete your storage rental application, you will choose a numerical pass code that will give you access to the storage facility grounds through our computer access gate (except at our Big Run Road location). You keep your lock on the storage unit so you have control over who has a key to your storage unit. If you wish, we can keep a key on file at the office.
2. What are the operational hours of the computer gate system? Top
In Lexington & Shelbyville you have 24 hour access to your storage unit, 7 days a week. Our Louisville / Fern Creek store offers gate access from 5am to 10pm, 7 days a week. Our Big Run Road location in Lexington does not have a computer gate system.

Billing

1. How do I know when my rent is due? Top
You will receive an invoice via e-mail about 2 weeks before your rent is due. Our billing is on an monthly anniversary cycle so if you move in on the 12th, your rent is due on the 12th of each month.
2. How can I pay for my storage? Top
We accept cash, check, money orders, as well as Visa, MasterCard, American Express, & Discover. In addition we can set your account up on automatic debit or credit so that your rent is paid on time every month. You can also pay your bill online @ www.spacecenterstorage.com/paynow.
3. How long does my lease run for? Top
Your lease for your storage unit at Space Center Storage is a month to month lease with a one month minimum. Your lease automatically renews every month until you tell us that you are moving out of your storage unit. If you plan to move out of your unit mid way through the month, just let the store manager know before you pay for the month that you plan to vacate your storage unit and we will be happy to pro-rate your rent that month.
4. Do you offer automatic debit or credit? Top
We offer both automatic debit and credit. Just fill out a simple form and your storage payment will be automatically processed every month when your bill is due.

Insurance

1. What is your self storage tenant insurance program?  Top
We understand that the personal property you store in your storage unit is valuable and important to you.   However, our storage facility is not responsible for property stored at our facility.   That is why our lease requires that each tenant maintain insurance coverage on their stored property.
Some, but not all, homeowners’ and renters’ insurance policies cover property stored in self-storage facilities.  You should contact your insurance agent to confirm whether your insurance policy will cover the property you store at our facility, and ask your agent about applicable policy deductibles and exclusions.

As a convenience, we make available to our tenants a Self Storage Tenant Insurance Program administered by Xercor Insurance Services LLC.  This insurance coverage satisfies your lease obligations, and premiums are collected monthly when you pay the rent for your storage unit.   The Self Storage Tenant Insurance Program is underwritten by one of the most reputable carriers in the marketplace.

Again, you are not required to purchase insurance through the Xercor Program, but you are required to maintain insurance.  Please see below for answers to Frequently Asked Questions about Xercor’s Self Storage Tenant Insurance Program.

2. What levels of coverage are available under the Self Storage Tenant Insurance Program? Top
Three levels of coverage limits are offered under the Program:  $3,000, $4,000 or $5,000.   Monthly premiums are $12, $14 or $16, depending on the policy limit you choose.

3. What losses does the Self Storage Tenant Insurance Program cover? Top
The Program protects your stored property against damage or loss from over thirty perils, including fire, lightening, windstorm, hail, tornados, hurricanes and other perils, like burglary and vandalism, all subject to a $100 deductible for each claim.  For a complete list of covered causes of loss, see the sample certificate of insurance at our facility.  You also can obtain a copy of the insurance certificate by contacting the Program administrator, Xercor Insurance Services, LLC, at 1-844-769-2904
4. What types of property does the Self Storage Tenant Insurance Program cover? Top
Most types of personal property are covered under the Program. However, there are some exclusions, such as: firearms, photographic equipment, currency, contracts, securities, lottery tickets, precious metals, jewelry, watches, fur, food, alcohol and other specifically identified exclusions.  To see a complete list of the property excluded, see the sample certificate at our facility or call the Program administrator, Xercor Insurance Services LLC at 1-844-769-2904.

  • $500 for mold, mildew, fungus, wet or dry rot damage
  • $500 for vermin, rodents, moths or insect damage

6. When does my coverage start?   When does coverage expire?   Top
Coverage begins when you complete and sign the Enrollment Form and pay the first month’s premium. Coverage ends when your rental agreement terminates or on the date specified in any notice you may receive for failure to pay your monthly premium.
7. If I’m insured under the Program, how do I file a claim if I suffer a covered loss? Top
